Damien Nuttgens - about the author

Like the rest of the Nuttgens I am interested in making things. However, I have never been brave enough to do it as a profession and, anyway, I love diversity. Here is what I do:

cupboard.jpg (20064 bytes) Alcove Unit and fire surround

Pitch pine with Laburnum ivy leaf decoration. I bought the pine from a recycled timber yard, and the laburnum from my mother's garden in Buckinghamshire. When laburnum is left on the ground to go rotten, the outside wood rots away, but the core wood turns to a very rich dark brown colour.

Table, box and chair

I made these using the facilities at evening classes. The chair is a copy of some chairs we already had. It is made from cherry wood.

Sunburst design small table.

This was just a whim I had.

I wanted to see if I could use veneers.

clock.jpg (6538 bytes) I mend clocks if I can get hold of them.
Jackie and I love spending time in the garden. It needs a lot of work on it at the moment. My job in computing gives me far less time than I used to get when I was teaching. (The panes in the greenhouse are now fixed) garden.jpg (36945 bytes)

Recently I have taken up painting. This is a watercolour I made in Turkey in August 2000

I am also a plumber, electrician, carpenter and builder. In fact I'll try my hand at anything..
